Dead and Risen with Christ (48 min)

PART 7 – Jonathan Black expounds Romans 6:1-14 the key NT passage dealing with the death, burial and resurrection of the believer through identification with Christ, which has freed him from the dominion of sin and brought him under a new master, the Lord Jesus. This is positional truth that the Christian must both know, and then “reckon” to be true in his life, issuing in a yielding to God (Message preached 15th Nov 2018)

The Righteousness of God (46 min)

PART 6 – Mervyn Hall expounds the key NT passage that explains the heart of “the gospel” – Rom 3:19-31. He distinguishes between God’s righteous character on the one hand (v24-25), and the “gift of righteousness” that God dispenses to the sinner who believes in Christ on the other (v21-22). The passage brings these two together at the end, where God, through the cross, is “righteous” while at the same time “declaring righteous” the sinner who trusts in His Son…

Women Who Knew Paul (43 min)

PART 11 – Josh Jacob closes the sermon series on “Women in the Bible” with a message about women known to the apostle Paul, including Phoebe, Priscilla, Lydia and two sisters in Philippi named Euodias and Syntyche. The commendation that Paul gives these and other women forever puts to rest any idea that Paul was a misogynist! Josh starts in Romans 16 with a long list of names commended by Paul, including numerous women (Message preached 19th Nov 2017)

Christ in Romans (43 min)

PART 5 – Dan Rudge preaches on “Christ in the epistle of Romans”. He highlights the 7 references to Christ as God’s “Son” in the epistle and develops the related themes of the person, proclamation, provision and purpose of the Son. In the second half of his message, he distinguishes between propitiation, redemption and justification and develops the theme of the believer’s death to sin in Chapter 6 (Message preached 5th Oct 2017)

God of Patience, Hope and Peace (44 min)

PART 2 – Mervyn Hall preaches on three Divine titles: “the God of Peace” (Rom 16:20), “the God of hope” (Rom 15:13) and “the God of patience” (Rom 15:5). He spends some time introducing the differences between a name (designed to convey essence and nature) and a title (designed to convey what someone does, in terms of work or office) before working through the three titles and explaining their significance (Message preached 15th Jan 2017)

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit (48 min)

PART 7 – Mervyn Hall preaches on the 21 gifts of the Spirit listed in 1 Cor 12, Romans 12, Eph 4 and 1 Peter 4. Do all Christians have a gift? How do you know what your gift is? What is the relationship, if any, between natural ability and spiritual gift? Are all 21 gifts still in operation or have some of them ceased? These and other questions are answered in this wide ranging message about this important and practical…

The Holy Spirit in Romans (41 min)

Norman Mellish preaches on references to the Holy Spirit in the epistle to the Romans. Starting in Chapter 5 and concluding in Chapter 8, he develops the teaching of Paul with regard to the Holy Spirit being the power for Christian living and the One who bears witness with our spirits that we are the children of God – and if children, then heirs! (Message preached 4th Dec 2014)

The Assembly and Its Gifts (30 min)

Norman Mellish preaches on spiritual gift in the local assembly (1 Cor 12, Eph 4, Rom 12). He outlines the variety and diversity of gifts and the unity that should mark their use. Gift in the local assembly is given particular attention and practical lessons are drawn from the body metaphor in 1 Corinthians Ch 12. No superiority…no inferiority! (Message preached 15th June 2014)

The Old Man vs The Flesh (22 min)

PART 11 – Michael Penfold preaches on the distinction between “the old man” and “the flesh”. From its 3 references in Rom 6, Eph 4 and Col 3 “the old man” is seen to be what we were in Adam prior to conversion (our “old standing”), whereas the “flesh” is the evil principle within (our “old nature”) (Message preached 3rd Feb 2013)

Justification by Faith vs by Works (24 min)

PART 9 – Michael Penfold preaches on the distinction between justification by faith (Romans 3) and justification by works (James 2). He explains why “faith alone” in Romans is a good thing, while “faith alone” in James is a bad thing. In summary, faith alone justifies, but the faith that justifies is never alone (Message preached 6th Jan 2013)
