Albert Leckie – Which Church? (45 min)

Albert Leckie (1920-1988) came from Airdrie in Scotland. Saved early in life, he grew up in a godly Bible-centred home. At fourteen he took employment in a lawyer’s office while attending night classes in Latin and Greek. Albert never married, but devoted his life to the full time study and teaching of the Word of God throughout the UK and further afield. He was well known for leading many Bible Readings in Trimsaren, Largs, Eastbourne, Ayr and London. In this…

Harold Paisley – 50 Years in the Work (57 min)

Harold Spurgeon Paisley (1924-2015) tells his testimony elsewhere on this site (HSP testimony) but here in this recording he recalls 50 years of labour in the gospel and in the ministry of the Word. Starting in 1945, the year after he was saved, in Carnlough, Enniskillen and Fivemiletown, Mr Paisley launched out in gospel work. In the early days he worked with men like Thomas Campbell, Joe Stewart and Thomas Wallace. He tells how in 1949 he preached in Mullahara,…

Bill Black’s Testimony of Salvation (40 min)

Bill Black grew up in a religious home in Northern Ireland but knew nothing about God’s way of salvation. Moving to Perth, Scotland (photo above), to work in the Health Service, he met a young lady called Anna who was later to become his wife (whose godly mother was praying daily for the salvation of both of them). The Lord answered those prayers when Bill met a young man called Jim Legge who preached the gospel to him (Jim would…

Albert McShane – Men Who Influenced Me (22 min)

Mr Albert McShane (1914-2002) was a mighty expositor of the Word of God and a much used gospel preacher. Awakened to his need of salvation in a prayer meeting in January 1929, he sought salvation at once. After a struggle that same evening, his thoughts finally turned to John 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life”. Considering the death of Christ he realised, “Now if the Son has satisfied God for me, and what He has done…

Willie Trew – Forgiveness (43 min)

Willie Trew (1902-1971) was saved in Lanarkshire, Scotland, at the age of 17, and was commended to serve the Lord full time two years later. He laboured in the 1920’s and 30’s in South Wales with Walter Norris, often conducting series of meetings for 16 weeks or so, usually in pioneer areas where there was no assembly. In later years he devoted himself to the careful exposition of God’s Word. When a famous evangelical preacher came to the UK in…

Witnessing to the “Religious but Lost” (43 min)

FOCUS ON EVANGELISM Part 13 – Jonathan Black gives guidance on effective ways to reach people who are “religious but lost” – the kinds of people who respond to a gospel approach with “No thanks, I have my own religion/church”, or “I’ve always been a Christian”, or “I was born a Christian”. After looking at the UK religious scene statistically, Jonathan outlines scriptural evangelistic responses to give to those who  may profess a belief in God and the Bible, but…

Sign No 8 – The Catch of Fish (38 min)

PART 9 – John Salisbury preaches on the 8th sign in John’s gospel – the miraculous catch of 153 fish. After some introductory remarks about the setting and pairing of the final sign, John divides his remarks into four: the importance of 1. obedience, 2. love for Christ, 3. shepherding and 4. following. He gives an explanation for the counting of the 153 fish, as well as discussing the interplay between two Greek verbs for love (agapao and phileo) in…

Lorne McBain – Gathering to the Lord’s Name (32 min)

In the late 1860s, Douglas Russell came from Scotland to visit his relatives in the Clyde and Valens area of Ontario, Canada. Finding people interested in the gospel, he started gospel meetings and saw many souls saved. He returned the next year and taught them the truths of believer’s baptism and gathering unto the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Fifty were baptized in one day and an assembly was formed. McBains were among those first believers in Clyde. Some…

Jim Hutchinson – 50 Years in the Lord’s Work (45 min)

Mr James G. Hutchinson (1920-2011), known to most as ‘Jim’, was an evangelist who laboured for the Lord for over 60 years mainly in Northern Ireland. In 1996, before a crowd of hundreds in Cambridge Avenue Gospel Hall, Ballymena, he related the Lord’s dealings with him during 50 years in the Lord’s work. This is a recording of Mr Hutchinson speaking on that occasion. Saved at the age of 14 in 1934 in Banbridge while attending Tent meetings conducted by…

Witnessing to Jehovah’s Witnesses (47 min)

FOCUS ON EVANGELISM Part 12 – Michael Penfold outlines the identity, origins, practices and beliefs of the Jehovah’s Witnesses before giving some guidance on how to effectively witness to them. Since the JW’s own Bible version, the New World Translation, has deliberately corrupted verses like John 1:1, Col 1:15-18 and Heb 1:8 (in order to avoid and deny the truth of the deity of Christ) Michael suggests a few other other passages that can be used just as effectively to…
